Jane has a professional background in disability lobbying and activism, small business development in human services delivery, regional economic development, community engagement and capacity building. Her interests lie in self-determining and responsible communities and how that applies to people living with disability.
Jane has lived and worked across Australia with a particular focus on working in outback communities until she became heavily involved in lobbying for social and economic reform particularly pertaining to people living with disability.
Jane founded the social media campaign Tasmania Disability Lobby in 2010 advocating for improved disability social and economic reform agendas namely the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). In 2013-14, Jane worked as part of the leadership team implementing the NDIS during the trial phase in Tasmania as Assistant Director of Engagement.
Jane has accomplished a GradCert in Regional Development (UWA, 2006) and GradCert in Disability Studies (Griffith University, 2012). Her academic achievements also include a Primary Health Research, Evaluation and Development Fellowship with UTAS. Presently, Jane is studying a PhD of Education with UTAS exploring 'Capacity building self-determination and disability'.
Until 2018, Jane co-founded and was a director of an NDIA registered independent support coordination business servicing the north and north-west of Tasmania.
Jane and her two sisters live with a muscle-wasting condition known as muscular dystrophy and draws on her lived experience endeavouring to be an effective change agent. Meanwhile, Jane has a keen interest in the arts and has assisted the State government previously rollout a disability and arts program across Tasmania.
